About Nic Salts
Nicotine salts are a relatively new type of e-liquid that has gained increasing popularity over recent years. Let’s take a quick look at the history of e-liquids to explain what nicotine salts are and where they come from.
The original e-liquids were created using freebase nicotine – a form of nicotine first used by cigarette manufacturers in the 1960s.Â
To make freebase nicotine, the nicotine is extracted from the tobacco plant and treated with ammonia to make it easier for the body to absorb. Freebase nicotine’s highly alkaline nature means that e-liquids containing it provide a harsh throat hit, which is favoured by some vapers. You can still buy freebase e-liquids, commonly in the form of shortfills where nicotine-free e-liquids are mixed with highly concentrated nicotine shots.
More recently, nicotine salts were introduced as an alternative to freebase nicotine. Here, the nicotine is extracted from the tobacco plant, but instead of being treated with ammonia, it is combined with an acid such as benzoic acid, citric acid or lactic acid. This makes the substance less alkaline and allows it to be vaped and absorbed by the body at a lower temperature. Because nicotine salts are absorbed more efficiently by the body, they provide a faster nicotine rush. They also have a smoother throat hit than freebase liquids because they are less alkaline.
Today, nic salts are available in a wide range of flavours and strengths. If you’ve ever used a disposable vape, it is likely that it was pre-filled with a nic salt. However, nic salt e-liquids can also be bought in 10ml bottles and used in your favourite refillable pod kit.

Can I buy nicotine salt e-liquid in bottles bigger than 10ml?
No. The regulations set out by the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) prevent the sale of nicotine-containing e-liquids in bottles bigger than 10ml in the UK and EU. This means that our UK and EU customers can only buy 10ml nic salt bottles. Fortunately, the small sizes make it easy to sample many different flavours to find your favourites and never get bored!
Are nic salt e-liquids cost effective?
While it may seem that buying 10ml bottles of e-juice isn't particularly cost effective, these delicious salt e-liquids can save you money in a different way. Because of the effective nicotine delivery, you can vape less e-liquid while still getting the satisfying nicotine hit, meaning that you'll get through your bottles more slowly and save money in the process.
Is nic salt e-liquid safe?
Yes, nicotine salts are extremely safe. The acids in nic salt e-liquids are naturally occurring (for example, benzoic acid occurs naturally in raspberries and is often used in foods and beverages). The other components of the e-liquid (vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol and food-grade flavourings) are all carefully tested and safe for vapers to inhale.
What nicotine strengths are nic salts available in?
Our nic salt e-liquids are available in nicotine strengths of 3mg, 6mg, 12mg or 18mg.
What nicotine strength do I need?
The strength needed varies from person to person so it will take some experimenting to find the perfect strength nicotine salt e-liquid for you. Here's our general guide:
3mg nicotine: Very low nicotine. Perfect for anyone used to smoking a few cigarettes a day.
6mg nicotine: Fairly low nicotine. Ideal for people who smoke around 10 cigarettes a day.
12mg nicotine: High nicotine. Smokers who get through a pack a day will find this strength best for them.
18mg nicotine: Very high nicotine. We only recommend this strength to people who smoke more than a pack of cigarettes a day.
If in doubt, we recommend choosing a lower strength than you think you might need. This is because a strength too high may result in you feeling unwell. A nic salt with less nicotine is preferable because you can always take more puffs.
Are nicotine salts suitable for sub-ohm vaping?
If you're looking for an e-liquid to use with a sub-ohm vape kit, we do not recommend nic salts. Nicotine salts are unsuitable for sub-ohm vaping for two reasons. Firstly, their high PG percentage means that they are not suited to sub-ohm vaping's large vapour production. Secondly, their high nicotine content means that a vaper using a liquid-guzzling sub-ohm device would find themselves absorbing too much nicotine, which may make them unwell.
