About High VG E-Liquid
High VG vape juice is an e-liquid that often contains 70% or more Vegetable Glycerine. These e-liquids are thick, viscous e-liquids that tend to contain less nicotine and are perfect for sub-ohm vaping.
E-liquids are made of four main ingredients: flavourings, nicotine, Vegetable Glycerine (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG). The proportion of VG and PG in an e-liquid can impact its performance, vapour, flavour and throat hit.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable Glycerine (also written as ‘Vegetable Glycerin’ by our American friends), is the colourless, viscous and slightly sweet liquid that provides the dense clouds that sub-ohm vapers love. VG is derived from vegetable oils and is chemically considered a ‘sugar alcohol’ – don’t worry, it’s not going to get you drunk! Outside of vape liquid, VG is also used in a range of foods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. VG’s sweet, syrup-like nature means that it is sometimes used as a sweetener in foods instead of sugar.
Propylene Glycol
Unlike VG, Propylene Glycol is a thinner liquid and has no taste or odour. It is a petroleum by-product which also has many common uses in toothpaste, inhalers and cosmetics. Completely safe to inhale, PG’s role in e-liquid is to carry the flavour and provide that satisfying throat hit sensation that many vapers enjoy.Â
High VG e-liquids, therefore, are thicker and more viscous than those with a large PG percentage. They provide bigger clouds of vapour and require more power to vaporise because of their thick, sticky composition. E-liquids that are high in VG are also more likely to leave sticky residue on your vape coils, which means that cleaning your tank is more important than ever. However, despite this, high VG vape juice is undeniably the best option for sub-ohm and cloud-chasing DTL vapers.

What is sub-ohm vaping?
Sub-ohm vaping is a type of vaping that uses coils with a resistance of lower than one ohm. Basically, a coil's resistance describes how easy it is for an electrical current to pass through it. Coils with low resistances below 1.0 ohm are very easy for electrical currents to pass through and therefore can be used with higher wattages. Sub-ohm vaping is preferred by DTL vapers who enjoy blowing big clouds and doing vape tricks. 70% and above VG liquids are perfect for sub-ohm vapers.
Can I use high VG vape juice in a pod kit?
We do not recommend trying to use e-liquid with high VG in a pod kit or any other low-powered vape. This is because the thickness of high VG juice means it requires more power to vaporise and devices operating at lower wattages will not be able to turn it into vapour.
What nicotine strength should I choose for my high VG e-juice?
Most high VG liquids are available as shortfills, which makes it easy for you to add your desired amount of nicotine. When vaping with high VG e-liquids it's important to remember that you'll inhale more vapour more quickly, meaning that you'll consume more nicotine than you would in a 50/50 e-liquid. As a result, we recommend opting for a lower nicotine strength or choosing nicotine-free shortfills to ensure that you don't consume too much nicotine and feel unwell.
How do I use an e-liquid shortfill?
Shortfills are bottles of e-liquid with space left at the top to add a 10ml nicotine shot. To mix in your nicotine, simply squeeze the nicotine shot into the shortfill bottle, secure the lid, then shake thoroughly to combine. You can then start using your nicotine-containing shortfill. Alternatively, you can vape the shortfill without any nicotine to enjoy the flavour and clouds on their own.
